May is a rather glorious time to be in North Cornwall. The hedgerows are bursting into life, the days are stretching out nicely, and the summer rush hasn’t quite hit our shores yet. When people plan a trip down here, they often face a bit of a dilemma: do you stay right on the coast and deal with the hustle, bustle, and parking headaches, or do you head inland for peace and quiet but face a long drive to the sea? Here at Stoney Nook, we like to think we offer a proper Cornish compromise. Situated in the quiet farming hamlet of Trenance near St Issey, our holiday home gives you the absolute best of both worlds.
There is nothing quite like waking up to the sound of the countryside. Instead of seagulls squabbling over chips, your morning soundtrack is the gentle chatter of birds visiting our garden bird table. You can start your day at a thoroughly relaxed pace, perhaps brewing a coffee with the Nespresso machine and taking it out onto the patio to plan the day ahead.
If you fancy stretching your legs before breakfast, the historic Saints Way trail passes a mere two hundred yards from our front door. It is a fantastic route for a morning amble, especially if you have brought the dogs along for the holiday. You can wander through the quiet fields and ancient lanes, breathing in the fresh spring air without seeing another soul. It is the perfect antidote to modern life, offering a slice of rural tranquility that feels miles away from the busy tourist hotspots.
Nearby North Cornwall Beaches
Of course, a trip to Cornwall usually means a trip to the beach, and you certainly will not be missing out on that front. Despite our peaceful countryside setting, you can be dipping your toes in the sea in no time at all. Hop in the car, and in about twelve minutes you will find yourself at Trevone Beach. It is a brilliant spot for rock pooling, surfing, or simply walking the South West Coast Path to take in those sweeping Atlantic views.
Because you are visiting in spring, you get the added bonus of enjoying these stunning coastal spots before the peak summer crowds arrive. Finding a parking space is a breeze, and you might even get a stretch of sand all to yourself. If you prefer a bit of harbour life, the famous fishing port of Padstow is only four miles down the road. You can spend the afternoon wandering around the independent shops, watching the fishing boats come and go, or grabbing a proper Cornish pasty to eat by the water.
Returning to Stoney Nook
After a day of sea air and exploring, Padstow’s renowned food scene offers plenty of brilliant choices for dinner. Whether you fancy some top-notch seafood or a hearty pub classic, you are spoiled for choice. But the real magic happens when you are ready to call it a night. Instead of navigating noisy coastal streets, you can retreat to the absolute calm of Stoney Nook.
Evenings here are all about unwinding together. If the May evening turns a little crisp, you can fire up the log burner in the living room—we supply unlimited logs—and settle in for a film on the Sky TV. Alternatively, if the family still has energy to burn, you can head out to the games room for a highly competitive table tennis tournament. It is this balance of coastal convenience and rural relaxation that makes a stay here so special.
If you are longing for a proper break that combines the stunning North Cornwall coast with the relaxing pace of the countryside, we would love to welcome you. Take a look at our availability and start planning your perfect spring getaway today.
