Ideal cottage for families

When it comes to planning a proper Cornish holiday with the kids, finding the right base makes all the difference. Here at Stoney Nook, we’ve set up our home-from-home to take the stress out of family getaways. Set in a peaceful farming hamlet just outside St Issey, you get the best of both worlds: plenty of countryside space to run off that excess energy, while still being just a stone’s throw from the glorious North Cornwall coast. Because we do not supply a cot or high chair, and our large garden has a few uneven areas to explore, we usually find the house is best suited to families with children over the age of five. We also know a family holiday just isn’t complete without the dog, so you are very welcome to bring up to two well-behaved dogs along for the trip too.

We know that keeping everyone entertained, whatever the weather decides to do, is key to a happy holiday. That’s exactly why we converted the garage into a dedicated games room. It is home to a full-sized table tennis table, which usually becomes the centre of some fairly competitive family tournaments before dinner. If the Cornish mizzle rolls in, the large living room is ready and waiting. We’ve made sure the superfast broadband can handle multiple devices, but you might find everyone actually wants to gather around the telly. With a full Sky package including Sky Cinema and Sky Sports, plus Netflix, movie nights are completely sorted. Just throw a few complimentary logs on the burner, pick a film, and relax. When it’s time to eat, our large open-plan kitchen and diner is the real hub of the house. The big oak table seats eight, giving you bags of room to spread out with a board game or tuck into a hearty family feast. When it is finally time to turn in after a busy day, the bedroom setup works wonderfully for families. The master bedroom features a sprawling superking bed and its own ensuite, giving parents a peaceful sanctuary. The second large bedroom has a zip-link bed that can be set up as a superking or two singles, and even has a small double sofa bed if you need space for an extra child. The third bedroom is always a hit with the kids, featuring a comfortable bunk bed arrangement. With a family bathroom upstairs and an extra cloakroom downstairs, there is always plenty of hot water and no morning queues to get ready.

Family Days Out

You really are spoilt for choice when it is time to head out. Trevone Beach is our nearest stretch of sand, about twelve minutes down the road by car. It is absolutely brilliant for families, with fantastic rock pools to explore and safe spots for a bit of swimming or bodyboarding. When you get back, you do not need to worry about dragging half the beach into the house. We have a large, sturdy shed outside that is perfect for dumping wetsuits, buckets, spades, and surfboards, while the utility room handles the sandy towels. If you fancy a day away from the sand, the famous Camel Trail is just a couple of miles from the front door. Hiring bikes and cycling the flat, traffic-free route along the estuary into Padstow for fish and chips is a brilliant family day out. For the thrill-seekers, Camel Creek Adventure Park is practically a neighbour, being just a mile away, offering rides and attractions that will easily tire out the kids. The garden wraps right around the house, providing a couple of lovely lawns for older children to play on while you fire up the Weber BBQ on the patio. We would absolutely love to welcome your family to Stoney Nook for your next Cornish escape. Have a look at our availability and start planning those seaside memories today.
